Frequently Asked Questions
Boiler Repair

On a combi boiler or a boiler that also heats your water, hot water working while the radiators stay cold usually points to the heating side: a thermostat or zone valve that is not calling for heat, a failed circulator pump, low system pressure or air trapped in the radiators. Our technicians test each of these and restore heat.

Usually, when the boiler is under 15 years old and the problem is a pump, valve, control or ignition part. When a boiler is 15 to 20 years old or more, leaking or needing repeated repairs, replacement with a high-efficiency Weil-McLain or Lochinvar boiler often costs less over time than continuing to repair it.

Banging, gurgling, kettling or whistling usually comes from air in the system, scale or sediment on the heat exchanger, low water pressure or a failing circulator pump. Air can often be cleared by bleeding the radiators; kettling and pump noise need a technician. We diagnose the cause and fix kettling, banging and whistling problems.

Once a year, ideally in early fall before the heating season begins. A boiler tune-up includes cleaning the burners and heat exchanger, checking water and gas pressure, testing safety controls and valves, checking for leaks and corrosion, analyzing combustion efficiency and flushing sediment from the system.

Leave the house right away without switching lights or appliances on or off, and call your gas utility or 911 from outside. Do not try to find the leak yourself. Once the utility has made the home safe, call Beck's to inspect and repair the boiler and its gas connections.

Don't let boiler troubles leave you in the cold. Whether you need urgent repairs or want to set up a maintenance plan, Beck's is here to help. Contact us today to schedule your boiler service and experience the peace of mind that comes with professional HVAC care in Highwood, Illinois.
